New Range Rover Songs- Barely Used!

Range Rover, a trio of teens from San Diego, CA are hard at work on their sample-filled, experimental synth pop debut album. You hear ‘sample’ and you think “oh no, another DJ record,” right? Wrong. Range Rover is unabashedly original, incorporating the weirdest noises into densely layered mini-symphonies that please the mind for their pure simple complexity. I’m not sure of their exact composition methods (stay tuned for an interview with Range Rover, coming up soon), but I can only imagine that a fair amount of work goes into each song.

Listen here for “Mind” by Range Rover:

Range Rover - Mind by bitsy

Austin Ceasar’s dark, gravelly vocals mix seamlessly with blaring guitars and synth accompaniment to make something that feels like a declaration. I love the vocals at the end. Austin says he doesn’t mind, but he so does.

And here’s “Soda:”

Range Rover - Soda by bitsy

It begins with train whistles and chugging percussion that grabs you and takes you along on a voyage to…space? A jungle cruise?  I don’t know. But I’ve got my ticket ready.

Range Rover says their complete debut album is coming “in the near future.” Let’s hope so. Along with the album, they are planning a West coast tour. We’ll keep you updated here for Range Rover news!

Liz Livengood

Liz recently returned to her hometown of Portland, OR from San Francisco, where she wrote consumer product reviews forWired magazine. Writing about music has been a lifelong dream for her. She learned about music from her supercool sisters in the '80s, who exposed her to everything from Pet Shop Boys to Slaughter. Known for remembering every song she hears, Liz can never ignore lyrics, which can either make or break a song, in her opinion. When not rocking out at shows, Liz spends time singing a lot of karaoke and playing Rock Band. She can't help being a nerd, okay?
