This Friday, September 3rd, The Granada Theater will be hosting a celebration of Southern-influenced funk, blues, and rock. Recently voted Best Venue by The Dallas Observer, The Granada occupies a special place in many DFdubbers' hearts as being the go-to place for any and all types of great music.
Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes are headlining, serving up their frothy brew of "garage funk with classical and jazz tinges" directly to you from the funk and jazz capital of the world: New Orleans. Topaz is a blues and funk band from Austin, which began with one man (Topaz McGarrigle) and gradually added members with roots, reggae, and Afro-Cuban influences.
Topaz may be a semi-precious gem, but first-up band Fatty Lumpkin will be stiff competition as resident diamonds in the rough.
In addition to packing all the hip clubs in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, local-ish jam/funk/psychedelic rock band Fatty Lumpkin has played the Wakarusa Music Festival and the River Jam Festival, more than earning their share of street cred from festies who love to jam until the wee hours of the morning. Maybe it's the quirky banter between the three members onstage, or maybe it's the extraordinary stage show that always accompanies the group (including an astounding light show, fog machine, and backlit screens for brave shadow dancers), or maybe it's just the downright inspiring musical chemistry between the trio. Regardless, Fatty Lumpkin will continue packing dance floors and clubs for as long as people can keep up with them.
Don't miss Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes, Topaz, and Fatty Lumpkin this Friday, September 3rd at The Granada Theater. The Granada is located at 3524 Greenville Ave in Dallas, Texas.
