Daniel Kohn

Daniel Kohn

Ever since he first heard the opening chords to "Smells Like Teen Spirit," at the age of 11, Daniel Kohn has been hooked on music. Born in New York City, raised in the music hotbed of Long Island and currently residing in Los Angeles, Kohn has been writing since high school, when he realized he could get CDs for free. He's a sucker for '90s music, especially that from Seattle. Like a small minority of Americans, he likes football of the European variety, especially Liverpool. When he's not chasing down bands, you can find him at your local pub with a pint of Carlsberg, usually at ungodly hours cheering on his beloved Reds.

For a woman in the early stages of her career, Jenny O. has made quite a name for herself. The Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter, who like the author is a Long Island native, has managed to seamlessly transition to the life on the West Coast. She’s made a name for herself within the notoriously insulated L.A. music scene and has become one of t...

We talked about Los Angeles-based, New York-native earlier this year, naming her as one of our artists to watchin 2013 and with this album, she justifies our strong talk with a solid, yet unspectacular debut. Her ...

To many, Orange County is equally known as the suburban Mecca that nestled in between Los Angeles and San Diego, the television shows that kind of sort of depict life there and of course, the music scene. Punk bands like Social Distortion and Bad Religion are pioneers in their respective genres, while No Doubt has blended punk and pop and taken b...

Like any other genre, if a rapper wants to break big, they need to get a swell of underground support through mixtapes or his/her crew, then get noticed, then capitalize on the buzz and finally parlay that into big money. Last year around this time, people were talking about Black Hippy and Kendrick Lamar, and look what he accomplished in 2012: o...

As we highlighted last week in our Artist of the Week section, Long Beach, Calif.-natives Rival Sons are on the cusp of something big. Granted, they already are big internationally in Europe and even Canada, which is what makes their latest album, Head Down, so important to their career Stateside. Needless to say, after giving this a couple of li...
