Daniel Kohn

Daniel Kohn

Ever since he first heard the opening chords to "Smells Like Teen Spirit," at the age of 11, Daniel Kohn has been hooked on music. Born in New York City, raised in the music hotbed of Long Island and currently residing in Los Angeles, Kohn has been writing since high school, when he realized he could get CDs for free. He's a sucker for '90s music, especially that from Seattle. Like a small minority of Americans, he likes football of the European variety, especially Liverpool. When he's not chasing down bands, you can find him at your local pub with a pint of Carlsberg, usually at ungodly hours cheering on his beloved Reds.

Over the past few years, somehow, someway, retro folk has made it’s way back into the hearts and minds of music lovers across the globe, reaching heights it hasn’t really seen since Bob Dylan was strumming an acoustic guitar and singing about the times were a changing. Alas, two short years ago, a little band from England called Mumford & Son...

As we showed in our Artist of the Week a few weeks ago, Porterfield’s path from DeYarmond Edison to Field Report has been unorthodox with many bumps along the road. We caught up with the Wisconsin-native ahead of his...

Sometimes it takes a while to capture people’s attention. This goes for any profession, but especially in music. Such is the case of troubadour Sean Hayes. The 42-year-old musician had been toiling in musical obscurity, flying below the radar, yet building a following of dedicated fans who enjoy his brand of folk-meets-indie-meets soul. Hayes ha...

Over the past few years, a new brand of country music has become popular. Maybe it’s due to the growing interest in the genre or perhaps there are some better new bands that are emerging. Regardless of what theory you subscribe to, North Carolina’s Delta Rae are one such outfit. Formed by siblings Ian Hölljes (vocals and guitar), Eric Hölljes (vo...

Sometimes all someone needs is a vacation to refocus and get the creative energy flowing. That’s certainly the case for Taken By Trees, which is the project of Swedish-born, L.A.-based singer Victoria Bergsman. The former lead singer of Swedish indie pop outfit the Concretes, Bergsman left the band in 2006 to focus on Taken By Trees and in the pr...
