I initially thought it was a multi-person band, but Head Like a Kite is actually one man, Dave Einmo, who hails from Seattle. His third and latest album, Dreams Suspend Night, features guest appearances by Aysa of Smoosh, Tilson of the Saturday Knights, Her Space Holiday and more. Though it’s described as genre-breaking on HLAK’s official website, Einmo’s music can best be summed up as dance-funk-dance-pop-dance-dance-dance. Seriously - give it a listen and then try telling me differently. (On a personal note, I’m definitely going to have “Diamond Paint” on repeat from now until HLAK’s show. Just sayin’.)
I got to ask Dave a few questions via email about his upcoming performance at Sasquatch!.
Monica Christoffels: What are some things you'd like your fans to know about you?
Dave Einmo: I'm recording a new Head Like a Kite album exclusively in the middle of the night, and also doing a remix record that I'm really excited about it. Personal stuff? My favorite food is paella, my favorite drink is single-malt Scotch, and I once ran into a truckstop in Idaho naked.
MC: Have you played at Sasquatch! before? If so, when, how was it like, etc.? If not, what are your feelings coming into the Festival?
DE: HLAK has played several festivals, but never Sasquatch so I'm looking forward to it. Asya of Smoosh is flying out to guest with HLAK and we've got a few other guests coming, including Panda, so it should be a blast. Our club shows turn into big parties, so I'm excited about bringing that vibe to an outdoor stage. We can still use the fog machine, right?
MC: What can fans expect from your performance?
DE: Bombast, costumes, confetti, and a time capsule that propels you to your favorite New Year's Eve party. Asya from Smoosh, Tilson, Panda, Zana from Thee Emergency, Barb, Graig, Zera, and more are joining me. Beats will be plentiful. Expect a party. Expect sweat.
MC: What else is coming up for you?
DE: I'm recording a new Head Like a Kite album, doing a remix EP, and launching another project I'm really excited about. Lots of shows coming up this summer, too. I plan to forgo sleep all summer, and just take a huge nap in September. I'm also going to have an mp3 player inserted into my left armpit, and buy shoes to which dog doo can't adhere.
MC: Anything else you'd like to add?
DE: Yes. I need suggestions from you readers on what costumes Head Like a Kite should wear at Sasquatch. Reader's Choice.
Well, Sasquatch! peeps, you heard the man! Head over to HLAK’s website and let him know what he should wear at the festival.
Head Like a Kite is scheduled to perform at 2:25 p.m. Monday, May 30, on the Yeti stage. Learn more about HLAK at the official site, as well as MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. And make sure to keep your eyes fixed on BestNewBands.com for more Sasquatch! pre-fest coverage!
