For those of you who don’t know, Cooper Boone is a modern day Renaissance man. The country crooner-come-psychological guru-come-chef extraordinaire has managed to stake his claim as someone who is one of the most creative minds in New York City, which is saying something. Boone’s energy is infectious and manages to strike a chord with almost everyone he comes into contact with. Though he’s passionate about many things, his true love is music.  He is planning on recording a new album in 2012 in Nashville. BestNewBands.com caught up with the singer/songwriter to talk about his career, what the most rewarding aspect of being musician is and when we can expect some new material.

Daniel Kohn: What's been going on?

Cooper Boone: Since the GMA Advice Guru Search (final 4 out of 15,000), I have been approached by a television production company to develop a show.  We are building a pilot now.  I continue to write, tour and take culinary classes in NYC.

DK: Have there been any shows lately? If so, have you played any of the new stuff?

I still play out (new show is in North Carolina) I also try out my new material on fans to get a reaction to the new tunes.

DK: What have you been listening to lately that has inspired your songwriting?

CB: Lucinda Williams

DK:  What has been the most rewarding aspect of the journey thus far?

CB: HANDS DOWN, the people I meet along the way.  They reinforce the reality that GOOD peeps exist everywhere.

DK: Since the release of your latest record, has your backing band changed at all?

CB: Funny you ask that, I just went through a major shift. I am touring more acoustically now with guitar, vocals, fiddle and mandolin.

DK: What are your plans for the rest of 2011?

CB: Tours, taping my pilot, write music, finishing my cookbook and staying out of debt!

Check Cooper Boone's website for all the happenings with Coop and info when he will be in your town next.

Daniel Kohn

Ever since he first heard the opening chords to "Smells Like Teen Spirit," at the age of 11, Daniel Kohn has been hooked on music. Born in New York City, raised in the music hotbed of Long Island and currently residing in Los Angeles, Kohn has been writing since high school, when he realized he could get CDs for free. He's a sucker for '90s music, especially that from Seattle. Like a small minority of Americans, he likes football of the European variety, especially Liverpool. When he's not chasing down bands, you can find him at your local pub with a pint of Carlsberg, usually at ungodly hours cheering on his beloved Reds.
