Jacco Gardner, the unexpected up-and-comer from Hoorn, Netherlands, has released a brand new music video for “Find Yourself” –the first single from his imminent second record, Hypnophobia. Though not his literal debut (Cabinet of Curiosities, 2013), Hypnophobia marks the artist’s first release with the reputable Polyvinyl. (Best New Bands picked Gardner as one of the “6 New Bands to See” during last year’s FYF Fest in Los Angeles, CA.)
Gardner, despite being only a musician of his mere mid-twenties, has found a passion in making music that aligns with multi-instrumentalism and a sonic character that calls up ornate styles of composition. This musical affinity, partnered with more modern sound choices, make association with bands like The Left Banke – peers situated in the vein of Baroque-pop – feel only natural.
Continuing the psychedelic-pop trail Gardner carved out with Cabinet of Curiosities, the young musician has now created an album that is looking to emanate a spirited wave of grandeur that can bring together the ethereal and real. The Dutch musician and producer was not afraid to take a firsthand step up for the realization of his musical vision, playing all the instruments needed, aside from the drums. Gardner has reached deep down to bring out a brand new sense of self with Hypnophobia and its lead single, “Find Yourself,” makes this assertion an undeniable one.
Today, the visual side of “Find Yourself” is brought to life thanks to the direction of Bear Damen. The video embodies a sense of expedition that comes straight from Gardner’s unfiltered imagination and is set forth with the ambition of taking listeners on a deeper into the young man’s fantastical fairytale kingdom.
Beginning this weekend in Denton, TX, Gardner will depart on a lengthy tour with bandmates Frank Maston (keyboards), Jasper Verhulst (bass), Ben Rider (electric guitar), and Nic Niggeburgge (drums), playing shows at the Denton Music Festival, Northside Festival, SXSW, IV, Burgerama, NXNE, among others. New dates have also been added so more fans can have the opportunity to hear this nearly indescribably music in person. A full tour date list is below.
Gardner explains how much of his travels have impacted the way this new album came to be formed and shaped:
“Touring all over the world has completely changed me…I’ve seen places I’d never seen before or didn’t even know existed. I think Hypnophobia has got some of its adventurous character from all those amazing experiences.”
