Don’t Miss At Sasquatch List- Das Racist!

It takes a lot to make it in the rap scene nowadays.  Mostly because the often fruitless endeavor is chalk-full of been there done that’s whose expiration date was so five minutes ago.  But every so often there’s that old school sound with a new school vibe, something tried and true that still keeps a listener on their toes.  That being said, anyone that can combine a 90’s hip hop sound with a little Billy Joel all up in the mix gets my immediate attention.  Das Racist, you have my immediate attention.

Remember when people were doing fresh things that married vintage music with a little modern twist- something that threw the listener for a loop and in some cases re-introduced them to an old forgotten fave?  I’m talking like when Gym Class Heroes couldn’t get any kind of airplay because they sampled Supertramp (the radio heads finally realized what the hell they’d been missing and eventually gave them some action) that’s what I’m talking about.

I thought Supertramp was about as unexpected as it could get, Fleetwood Mac’s “Chain” was sampled by someone but I’m still cyberstalking to find that gem.  Mostly Das Racist is winning because anyone successfully remixing a 1980’s legend, and doing it well is reason to stop what your listening to immediately and switch up the track to DR themselves.

The sad thing is what got Das Racist original recognition was their joint “combination pizza hut and taco bell” which was, and to some still is, a viral diamond in the rough of the world wide web.  While I can appreciate the fact that a late night encounter, possibly after one, two, too many drinks to count deserves some kind of anthem (any two for one all you can eat at an economic price is worthy of some sort of cheer at 3am) anyone who learned to love that song will love their other stuff.  I still have “you oughtta know” bumping in my background.  My neighbor can thank me for the radio war wake up call at 9am later.

Moral of the story, if you’re one of the lucky sons of guns to get to Sasquatch don’t miss Das Racist.  Find out more about the dynamic trio HERE!
