Summer is just around the corner, and it looks like a good time to stop and smell the flowers. Or maybe just have a sniff of the electric daisies, because one of the biggest dance music festivals in North America is returning to Los Angeles’ Exposition Park and Memorial Coliseum. The Electric Daisy Carnival has announced a stellar lineup that will be delivering bass to the masses for two nights on June 25 and 26, 2010. How stellar? Well, the folks at Insomniac who put on the event have consistently one-upped themselves each year, and this year is definitely following suit. Big names from EDC’s past, such as Moby and Groove Armada will be dropping their funky electronic beats, as well as newcomers like MSTRKRFT and Deadmau5. The venue has also been expanded to better accommodate the 135,000 glowstick waving fans who arrived at last year’s event, giving everyone a little more room to exercise their fancy footwork.
The dance music duo MSTRKRFT will play a highly anticipated set after their well-deserved break from touring. Their shows are notoriously energetic and always unique, such as their set at last year’s Coachella where they pulled John Legend out of thin air to do a live performance of their “Green Light” and “Heartbreaker” collaborations. A repeat might be wishful thinking, but MSTRKRFT is anything but predictable. Perhaps the most exciting addition to the flowery festival lineup thus far is the immensely talented Joel Zimmerman, better known by his fans as Deadmau5.As his electro act has gained more notoriety over the past few years, Zimmerman has invested more and more creative energy into his live show. His stage set-up has been completely revamped, and any videos shot from this year’s Coachella will show him at work behind a huge glowing cube that transforms with every song (someone wanted to be just like Daft Punk when they grew up). Also, Zimmerman’s giant mouse helmet has taken on a new style, now riddled with LED lights that also add to the apex-stimulation that is a Deadmau5 live show.
Electronic music blaring from five massive stages might seem like enough to keep a mob entertained. It wouldn’t be called a carnival, though, if there weren’t any rides. Fans can expect a plethora of different rides that will fling them up in the air, or spin them upside-down while listening to their favorite live acts. There will also be numerous art installations and carnival performers, making EDC look more and more like a dance music version of Coachella. The full lineup is yet to be finalized, but the acts that have been announced already are enough reason to crack those glowsticks and get dancing.
