Artist Profile: Nurses

nurses-love-cloth

Nurses, a Portland favorite in the thriving indie scene, is the psych-rock project of Aaron Chapman, John Bowers, and James Mitchell. The Oregon transplants combine vocal harmonies, a slew of unusual instruments, and electronic production for a cozy, homemade sound.

The sonic landscape that the trio creates by layering is one that fits right in with their newfound Pacific Northwest home. Nothing is too clean or too sharp, and Nurses likes it that way. A faint echo and an out-of-tune piano are welcomed into the sonic landscape, not as mistakes, but as quirks that add depth to the already sprawling sounds. The songs envelop the listener like a pleasant dream that makes you huddle under the comforter just a little bit longer. Live, they impressively translate the layers of sound from their sophomore release, Apple’s Acre, with ease and heart.

The locals will be returning to Portland for a show at Holocene August 26th
