Catch Deerhoof at Le Poisson Rouge Tonight!

Deerhoof has played a smattering of shows in New York recently after releasing their new album Deerhoof vs. Evil (including this one back in February that was handpicked by both myself and Jesse), but if you have yet to catch their eclectic j-popish art rock show so far, do it now! Le Poisson Rouge has this show titled as “Deerhoof & Friends: A musical event within Carnegie Hall’s 2011 JapanNYC Festival, presented by Wordless Music w/ Ichi and If By Yes (Yuka Honda + Petra Haden).” I will unfortunately miss the latest Deerhoof spectacle as I will be covering The London Souls at Brooklyn Bowl for your show review reading pleasure tomorrow, but I highly recommend catching this one.

I would recommend getting there early, too. As eccentric as Deerhoof’s music can be, it’s a safe bet that the openers will be equally unique. Ichi is not your normal solo act – his bio sites that his instrumentation can include (but may not be limited to) “combining steel-drum with ping-pong balls, tape-loops with double bass and trumpet with bongos, all in the space of one short set.” Then we have If By Yes, formed by members of That Dog and Cibo Matto. And really, any band that takes their name from an E.E. Cummings poem is off to a great start in my book.

Show is 18+ and starts at 8pm. Tickets are $22 and can be purchased at the door day of show. Deerhoof Vs. Evil can also be streamed in its entirety on Bandcamp.
