Berlin – The Unravelling are back and ready to prove themselves yet again with the release of their latest single ‘Master Drone’, the follow-up to their previous single ‘Revolt’. Released on Fat Wreck Chords, the success of ‘Revolt’ confirms that the dynamic rock duo are back in a major way. Since the release of ‘Revolt’, The Unravelling have received stellar reviews from publications within the rock community gaining them over 20,000 new Facebook fans.
The Unravelling have been an impactful band in the heavy metal scene since their debut in 2010. Their first album, 13 Arcane Hymns, was conceived as a conceptualized offering that many heralded as a metal masterpiece. It incorporated a sound that was not only infectious, but was by accompanied vocals and lyrics that journeyed beyond the conventional scope of ambient and industrial rock. To capitalize on their album release, The Unravelling began a tour that only further cemented their status as a band unafraid to test the boundaries of their genre. During the tour, they opened for musical acts such as Helmet and Bison BC. Later that year, The Unravelling garnered three nominations at the Alberta Metal Awards, winning in the Best Album Production category. After topping the CJSW Metal charts, the band’s video for ‘Move Forward Until You Are Dead’ received a worldwide exclusive online.
The duo, consisting of lead vocalist Steve Moore and instrumentalist Gustavo De Beauville, are known for their drive and work ethic. Even when Moore was diagnosed with cancer in 2011, few doubted their resurrection and return to the top of the metal scene. In spite of the diagnosis, The Unravelling have dared to expand the scope of their sound at the risk of alienating their core audience. What has transpired has been quite the opposite. Their bold decision to step outside the box has now attracted a larger following to Moore and Beauville. Their elevation is a testament to their artistry.
It may have taken nearly two years for Moore’s full recovery, but for fans, it was well worth the wait. In 2015, they have proven the naysayers wrong with music that has struck a chord on an emotional level with both fans and critics alike. ‘Revolt’, heavy on synths with an underlying guitar riff, includes lyrics that reject falsehoods and endorse inner change. The song is a departure from the previous sounds on their initial album. ‘Master Drone’, which also features a progressive rhythm and heavy use of synth, further expands The Unravelling’s sound. Steve Moore’s vocals are reminiscent of Tool’s Maynard James Keenan and Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor, respectively. For those that were uncertain of The Unravelling’s return, ‘Master Drone’ has all but confirmed that they are back with a sonic vengeance.
