Sometimes you know a big thing when it stares you in the face. Then there are times when you’re standing Street-side with a band and nothing can prepare you for how big they’re about to become. Welcome to my life several months ago at 2010’s Sunset Strip Music Fest when I was hanging out (yeah- it seemed more like just kicking it than doing a formal interview- check it out here) with L.A.’s local band Vanaprasta. That’s just how chill these five dudes are.
Fast forward to the present and Vanaprasta has gone from smaller under the radar performances to residencies at the Echo, scoring airplay on L.A.’s major radio station 98.7, to benefit shows (remember a month or so back when some awesome acts pulled together to benefit Haiti?) to launching a new music video for their titled release “Healthy Geometry”- Vanaprasta has arrived on the scene, full force!
The sweetly soft vocals accompanied by eloquently arranged guitars show the band has not lost its enchanting luster- but rather evolved slightly from their previously released (and my personal addiction) “Color of Sin.” At this rate, and the musical evolution taking place before our eyes, one thing is certain- in the midst of musical Darwinism, in a town where it’s eat or be eaten- Vanaprasta isn’t going anywhere.
Can’t get enough of the new kids on the scene? Cyberstalk them at www.myspace.com/vanaprasta and you can click here to check out how to win tickets to the performance happening this weekend!
