Los Angeles – Portland, Oregon-based experimental country/folk band, Blitzen Trapper, are happy to be sharing a special live track, “Heart of Gold,” via SoundCloud. The Neil Young cover tune comes from the band’s limited-edition Record Store Day LP offering, Live Harvest. The quintet recently performed Young’s Harvest album from start to finish, at the Doug Fir Lounge in Portland, during their tour supporting their latest album, VII, and the group decided to record the live rendition of Harvest as a limited-run vinyl pressing for Record Store Day, which is Saturday, April 18.

Frontman, Eric Earley, had this to say about the decision to cover, and ultimately record, an album of Neil Young’s work:

“I think we all knew the record before we even tried to play it[.] It’s one of those records that takes us to that place of comfort and nostalgia like the Dukes of Hazzard or a Chevy Impala. It just feels good to play it.”

Starting April 11, the five gentlemen will depart for a headlining tour that includes stops along the east coast and throughout the Midwest. Furthermore, Blitzen Trapper will once again be performing Neil Young’s landmark album, front to back, as a tribute of celebration for the record; their set supplemented by fan favorites from the band’s catalog of originals. This will be what fans can expect for their shows at the City Winery locations in Chicago, New York City and Nashville.  The other shows during the tour will be traditional Blitzen Trapper concerts but will still include a handful of favored tracks off the Harvest album within the band’s setlist. The Sound Garden in Baltimore will also be hosting a special Blitzen Trapper in-store combination show and signing on Record Store Day, scheduled for that afternoon at 2PM.
