New York – Blues rock guitarist Gary Clark, Jr. will continue promoting his well-received Blak And Blu album with tour dates through (at least) early March. His current US headlining tour takes him through Thanksgiving weekend; after a two-month break, he’s been selected for the opening slot on the first leg of Kings Of Leon’s US arena tour from early February through early March. (All dates HERE.)
Last December, BestNewBands.com named Clark the winner of our inaugural Newbie Award for Best New Male Artist of 2012. Our staff also named Blak And Blu one of the finalists for our Best New Album award. In a profile about Clark in August 2012, we wrote: Clark Jr.’s live shows is what was garnered him the appropriate amount of hype for a new artist. For those of who you haven’t seen him live, you’re missing out.”
Clark continues to be a much sought-after musical guest on the various network late night talk shows, performing his current single, “When My Train Pulls In,” on Jimmy Kimmel Live; “You Saved Me” on the Arsenio Hall Show; a third appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno; and a fourth appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman on Nov. 7.
Clark is also a featured performer in the Showtime documentary Made In America, directed by Ron Howard and produced by Howard, music icon Jay Z, and Oscar winner Brian Grazer. The film captures Jay Z uniting the biggest names in music – including Clark, D’Angelo, Janelle Monáe, Pearl Jam, Skrillex, Run-D.M.C., and Kanye West – to perform at a star-studded, multi-genre, two-day “Made in America” festival in Philadelphia.
