A B & The Sea
Last night, I once again found myself taking in a show courtesy of the weekly Popscene event at the Rickshaw Stop. The resident djs started the night off by offering their mix of popular songs to help set the stage for the bands that were about to take the stage.
Up first we were immersed in the sounds of San Francisco dream poppers Young Digerati. From the start, the synth lines were catchy and the bass was heavy. This was a good way to kick off the evening, as they were able to satisfy the appetite of their local fan base. They closed out their evening with their slow flowing song “Dauphin”.

The dance floor was nearly filled as the crowd began anticipating the arrival of San Francisco’s A B & The Sea. While the crowd waited, The Ronettes “Be My Baby” played through the sound system. To kick off their set they busted right into “Bone Dry”, this grabbed the attention of the crowd as they started bobbing their heads and clapping along with the song. A B & The Sea do an incredible job of recreating the surfer sound that was perfected by bands Beach Boys. This was certainly noticeable on their song “Yellow Haired Girl”. On this song, the guitar riffs are electric and the lyrics are extremely colorful as they tell a story of a simpler time.
Throughout their performance, A B & The Sea voiced their appreciation towards the crowd that showed up to see them play. The set continued with solid harmonies and infectious hand clapping. Before playing their final song, they fittingly covered Jackson Browne’s “Stay”. They closed out their set with their summertime hit “In the Sunshine”. This was a fun show that sent me off with catchy lyrics and feel good sounds playing in my head.
