New York – If you haven’t started your holiday shopping list yet, you’re in good company.  But the organizers of Record Store Day have just published their Black Friday list of goodies that labels will release exclusively to participating stores on November 28 to get you in the giving mood.  Best New Bands IDs ten that you may want on your list.

Jack Antonoff’s indie pop band Bleachers are releasing demo versions of six songs from their debut release Strange Desire on 12” pink vinyl (RCA), including the hit “I Wanna Get Better.”


Our 2013 Newbie Award winner for Best New Band, Scotland’s Chvrches, have a five-song collection called Under The Tide.  The 12” EP from Glassnote is on clear yellow vinyl and includes the electronic band’s “Strong Hand,” never before released “physically” in the U.S., as well as an alternate version of their single, “The Mother We Share.” (Photo By Eliot Hazel)

Four songs not available on the U.S. release of Irish artist Hozier’s self-titled debut album are being issued on 10” vinyl from Columbia.  In The Woods Somewhere includes an exclusive cover of Willie Dixon’s “My Love Will Never Die.”


Jazz great Miles Davis is represented by two releases, one of which is a deluxe box set of the first five 10” vinyl albums of the legendary Prestige recordings in which the trumpeter appeared as a leader (1951-1954).  Miles Davis: The Prestige 10 Inch LPs Collection Vol. 1 contains the original cover art and lines notes as well as a new essay from jazz historian Ira Gitler.

2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees Green Day are represented by Tune In, Tokyo a 2001 live recording pressed on blue vinyl (Reprise).  The seven songs include “King For A Day,” “Blood, Sex And Booze,” and “Church On Sunday.”

Rock priestess Chrissie Hynde has a live set called Stockholm Live At The 229 Club, London, England with songs from her recent debut solo album.  The 10” vinyl release (on her own label) also includes such Pretenders classics as “Talk Of The Town” and “Don’t Get Me Wrong.”

Morrissey Curates The Ramones is a new greatest hits tribute to the seminal rock band, by one of their biggest fans.  The Rhino release includes such staples as “Sheena Is A Punk Rocker,” “Rockaway Beach,” “I Wanna Be Sedated,” “Blitzkrieg Bop” but not, surprisingly, “Do You Remember Rock ‘n’ Roll Radio?”

Phil Spector’s perennial holiday favorite, A Christmas Gift For You, gets the red vinyl treatment via Sundazed Records.  The collection features Darlene Love, The Ronettes, The Crystals and Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans singing “White Christmas,” “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,” “Frosty,” “Rudolph” and all the classics.

From Genesis To Revelation will be available on vinyl for the first time (via Varese Sarabande) since its 1974 release when Peter Gabriel fronted the British art rock band before Phil Collins replaced him as lead singer.

What would RSD be without a new live release from The Grateful Dead?  Rhino is releasing a two-LP set from the band’s November 18, 1972 Houston concert.  The Rhino album includes a 25-minute version of “Playing In The Band” from what the announcement calls “one of the Dead’s best tours.”
