Los Angeles – Long-time Best New Bands faves Allah-Las have premiered a video for “Follow You Down” from their second album, Worship The Sun, out this week on Innovative Leisure.
The Los Angeles band’s album expands on the sound established by their debut, honing their fusion of West Coast garage rock and roll, Latin percussion and electric folk.
Allah-Las met while working at Amoeba Music, a key destination for music lovers in Los Angeles. While this experience helped shape their sensibility, their sound was forged in an underground basement where they came together as a band. They began gigging locally in 2008, refining their live performance, and finally released their first 7” in 2011. In 2012, they released their self-titled album, anchored by their second single “Tell Me (What’s On Your Mind) / Sacred Sands.” The release was met with critical acclaim and the band toured extensively in the U.S. and abroad before going back into the studio to record their follow-up.
In our interview with them last year, the band’s Miles Michaud explained how he came up with their unusual name: “When I thought if it, it sounded like a good name, ‘Allah-Las.’ It rolled off the tongue and to me it was interesting to mix this word ‘Allah’ that has a very loaded feeling to it. It’s a word that a lot of people carry a lot of emotion with and to mix it with something like “las” and make it sonorous, it makes you think twice to how you feel about the word ‘Allah.’ It appealed to me for that reason.”
The band begins an extensive tour later this week in the UK and Europe through November 1. After a short break, they tour the U.S. and Canada from mid-November until the end of the year.
