Los Angeles-based rock band Beware of Darkness made their network television debut this week on Conan. The three-piece tore through their loud, bold, blues-rock single “Howl,” a song that’s climbing into the Top 15 at Active Rock Radio and is the lead track off their long-awaited debut album Orthodox - released just last week via Bright Antenna Records. Orthodox follows the band’s well-received Howl EP and is a potent and precise body of work heavily clouded with imagery and inspiration drawn from literary figures such as Sylvia Plath, Emily Dickinson, and David Foster Wallace. Recorded at the Sound Factory and Valley Recorder in Hollywood, CA, executive produced and mixed by Dave Sardy (Oasis, LCD Soundsystem, Nine Inch Nails), and produced byGreg Gordon and front man Kyle Nicolaides, Orthodox proves itself to be a sensuous experience – aimed somewhere between the gut and dirty dive bar – but death, and its implications for the living, is wrestled with on nearly each of the album’s twelve blistering tracks. Anticipation for the album has been building since the band released their belovedHowl EP last year that earned instant acclaim and launched the single “Howl,” a song that has already hit Top 40 Rock Radio with over 26 stations playing it in regular rotation.
