New York - The Bright Smoke are a uniquely profiled duo based out of Brooklyn. A self-described, “indie-noir” band, Quincy Ledbetter (guitar, bass, piano) and Mia Wilson (vocals, guitar, piano) certainly have some bright endeavors to look forward to, despite the slightly sonically dark associations that come to mind when cueing up their music.
Wilson and Ledbetter are a fairly young band within the music scene, having just formed in the spring of 2012. That said, they have been keeping a steady stream of progress going ever since their beginnings; releasing their first album in just about a year’s time (Late for War, April 2013) and now being on the verge of dropping their sophomore effort, Terrible Towns. The all-new, 10-track, record is following after an extremely well received extended play release titled, Virginia Et Al. (December, 2013).
The Bright Smoke are a duo that has seen music lovers call up likening references to peers like Cat Power, PJ Harvey and Patti Smith. Additionally, other connections to company like Portishead, Leonard Cohen and Sigur Ros have even been put on the comparative table. Collecting all those diverse sounds and artistic styles in one place and what ensues is “Wild Again”, the first single off of Virginia Et Al. and exactly the kind of music that The Bright Smoke thought best to make a first impression with the public –clearly a shrewd decision on their part as The Bright Smoke are quickly becoming a name that drums up anticipation and intrigue for things to come!
Terrible Towns is due for release on May 5, 2015.
