With a new EP out last month (Prepare For Black & Blue) and a voice reminiscent at times of a younger Eddie Vedder, The White Buffalo is primed and ready to take the country rock world by storm. He is a storyteller by trade and his voice can scale from quiet love songs to brooding country despair. The man behind the guitar, and that Buffalo guitar strap, dished to BestNewBands.com on some of his current favorite tracks.
Merle Haggard-”Mama Tried” and Kenny Rogers-”Ruby”
Been listening to classic country on satellite radio. Revisiting a lot of country western from the 60s and 70s when it actually had substance.
Dawes-” When My Time Comes”
I first become aware of Dawes at a benefit for the Chile earthquake victims I did with them Andrew Bird and Jackson Browne.
Mumford & Sons- “Little Lion Man”
I discovered them randomly on itunes about a year and change back. Their EP first came out at the same time as Hogtied Revisited and I immediately was drawn to it.
Townes Van Zandt-”Waitin round to Die”
Been aware of the late TVZ for many years. There are a couple different recorded versions of this song. I love the final lines, “Got out of prison, got me a friend at last. He don’t drink or steal or cheat or lie. Well his names Codeine, he’s the nicest thing I’ve seen. Together we’re gonna wait around to die”
