New York – Max Jury released his self-titled debut album earlier this summer via Marathon Artists to much critical acclaim. Part of the album was recorded at the iconic Electric Lady Studios, but then an unfortunate incident involving candle wax and Jimi Hendrix’s historic mixing desk led to Jury being ejected from the studio. He continued recording at a friend’s home studio in North Carolina and the result is a self-titled debut album is a classic in the making.
The Des Moines, Iowa native will be returning to the US after extensive touring of Europe and the UK and will headline a series of shows across America including a stop at Austin City Limits. Jury has previously toured supporting Lana Del Rey and Rufus Wainwright. Watch him perform “Grace” for Mahogany Sessions here.
Max Jury has played piano and sung since childhood – raise in a household of country, soul and classic rock. Think of the bruised Americana of Gram Parsons, the rich piano storytelling of Randy Newman and Tom Waits, the lush melodicism of Paul McCartney and rough edged gospel heart of the Rolling Stones playing country ballads. And then trace a fragile link to the tender soul of Curtis Mayfield and Al Green all the way to the 21st century beats of Alicia Keys and D’Angelo. Weave together a magical tapestry of Seventies Laurel Canyon acoustic confessionals and 21st Century Neo Soul and breathe it all out in a whisper of breathless emotion.
