Portland – U.K. duo Nai Harvest has released the song “Jelly,” via Soundcloud, in anticipation of the band’s new double A-side single entitled ”Just Like You / Jelly,” due out April 29th through Topshelf Records. “Just Like You / Jelly,” marks the first new material to be made available, from the lo-fi punk band, since last year’s critically acclaimed full length Hairball.
“Jelly” brings the noise… so much noise! It’s always amazing to hear how much of a quake guitarist Ben Thompson and drummer Lew Currie can bring, just the two of them. The shimmering guitar, great melodies, and the uptempo will leave you feeling like jelly after dancing and shaking all you got to the beat, but like Thompson, you’ll be singing, “I’m feeling alright!”
Last month Nai Harvest released the music video for ”Just Like You,” which captures the fuzzed-out sound showcased on Hairball, while also channeling the slacker-rock feeling of the Hold Open My Head EP. Ben Thompson says the song ”Just Like You” speaks “about two or more people being literally glued together and forced to be the same person, but they’re all just trying to rip each other apart. It sounds pretty fucking mental when said out loud.” Thompson also said he and Currie find ”Just Like You” to be one of their “favorite songs we’ve written as a band, and it just flowed out of us so naturally. As always, we tried to keep it sounding as gritty and wild in the studio as it did live and on demos.”
When it comes to writing music, Ben Thompson told Best New Bands, ”We just write records for ourselves. We don’t really give a shit. As long as Topshelf likes it, and they’re willing to put it out, someone out there is gonna like it.” Well, we like “Jelly,” and hopefully the upcoming release of ”Just Like You / Jelly” is just the start of more new music to come from two of our favorite Sheffield boys!
