RDGLDGRN

Chicago - After a little breather and some time spent recording, D.C. band RDGLDGRN - okay they’re from Reston, Virginia, but word on the street is that Reston may as well be D.C. - is back with a new album, due out this Fall. And that’s pronounced Red Gold Green, by the way.

Over the summer, the trio unleashed the first single, “No Pixar,” from their upcoming album, in which King Green dissects social issues while poking fun at his growing bald spot, and they also performed with their pal Dave Grohl, opening for the Foo Fighters’ Fourth of July concert at Washington D.C.’s RFK Stadium. Now, Red (Marcus Parham), Gold (Andrei Busuioceanu), and Green (Pierre Desrosiers) give us “Runnin Away.” The video was directed, shot, and edited by RDGLDGRN, with contributions from Good Boy Media and photography from their good friend, Michael Andrade. The guys told us they’re especially excited about “Runnin Away” because “it is one for the fans.” The tight beats also make perfect for some killer footwork to be had. Take a listen and beat your feet!

“Runnin Away” isn’t all fun and games. The boys take hit at some serious issues facing DC and the rest of the U.S. Green raps: “Quit my day job / Poverty just ain’t me / Cops shootin’ at our ass on any known street.” RDGLDGRN slyly slip in social and political messages, like that of hip-hop past, something that is sorely missed in much music today, making the guys’ music refreshing and all the more unique, especially with their go-go drumbeat – native to Washington D.C. – supplying the backbone to the band’s signature sound. RDGLDGRN “represents the best of the city’s musical heritage: influenced by punk, hip-hop, jazz, indie rock, and soul.”

The trio is unique in many ways, having first made news when “I Love Lamp” became a YouTube sensation, gaining the attention of the X-Games and Dave Grohl, then later NME and Rolling Stone. They grew a name for themselves, albeit underground, for those in the know and deep in the music industry. They started to break out from the underground with their debut album RDGLDGRN LP, featuring “Doing the Most,” co-written with Pharrell Williams, hitting up Jimmy Kimmel Live! and the Vans Warped Tour.

Last year Best New Bands caught their energetic, intoxicating live show at the Metro in Chicago, which showcased not just their lush sound, but also their ever-growing and devoted fanbase, who sang along word for word with the threesome. The guys told Best New Bands that while they are currently touring overseas, RDGLDGRN will soon return to the States and tour this winter. Until then, you can read some RDGLDGRN comics, check out their YouTube channel, and eagerly await another album from a band forging its own path in the rocky music industry.

At the age of six, Sarah Hess discovered True Blue by Madonna. This resulted in her spending hours in front of the bathroom mirror with a hairbrush microphone, belting out "La Isla Bonita" off key. Her love for music only intensified over the years thanks to her parents; her mother exposed Sarah to The Jackson Five and had her hustling to the Bee Gees, while her father would play her albums like 'Pet Sounds' and 'Some Girls' from start to finish, during which he'd lecture on and on about the history of rock & roll. Sarah would eventually stumble upon rap and hip-hop, then punk and alternative, and fall madly in love with Jeff Buckley and film photography.

After attending The School of the Art Institute in Chicago, Sarah went on to study education at Dominican University, earning a degree in history. When not teaching, writing, or taking in a show, she is most likely to be found with a camera to her eye or hanging out in a darkroom.
