Central Florida’s Orange You Glad Festival is in its fifth incarnation now, and this is probably its best line up yet. The four-day fest takes place in Orlando from March 8-11 at several venues in the best parts of town. Orlando isn’t known for its super amazing music scene, but it has its share of worthwhile local bands, and the scene as a whole is on the up and up. Interestingly, there is a handful of Brooklyn gems, therefore with this preview I get to rep both my current city and my old stomping grounds.
There are the bigger names include Cults and Tennis (who are still retaining their charm with the music they’ve been making since Cape Dory), and Brooklyn is representing big with Caveman, The Big Sleep, Zambri, and our recent Artist of the Week, Hospitality. Florida’s local highlights include Fake Problems from the southwest coast, whose sound is similar to Man Man, plus Orlando’s very own Thee Wilt Chamberlain and Saskatchewan. BestNewBand.com favs Grandchildren and Deleted Scenes are also on the bill. Also also, to kick it all off is a pre-party downtown at Backbooth with Grimes and Born Gold, who are selling out shows nationwide.
Individual passes to events are all $15 or less, or you can grab a weekend pass for just $30. That’s less than an average NYC bar tab on a Tuesday. I’m really starting to miss home right about now…
