If you’re not sure who Dreamers of the Ghetto are, don’t be ashamed; but, you should fall in line quickly (Check out my review of their debut album here). Dreamers are a phenomenal band out of Indiana that’s been compared to Arcade Fire and U2 among others. We at BestNewBands.com think so highly of them that we wanted to give them a spot on the coveted 10 Questions list. So without further pomp and circumstance, here are my 10 Questions with Dreamers of the Ghetto.

MD: Marx Brothers or Three Stooges?

Three Stooges. Never saw any Marx Brothers re-runs.

MD:  How surprised have you been with the reception, thus far, of your tremendous debut album?

We have been really happy with the reception and surprised at how some of the reviews look so deeply into the album. Reviews are something you can’t control and therefore can’t look into too much. We expected some to love it and some to hate it just like all our favorite bands. We put in a lot of effort but at some point you have to let go and see what happens.

MD:  I wrote a review about your album suggesting that there was a U2 style/sound about you. Is that conscious or does that just come out in the music unintentionally?

It’s more of a subconscious influence mixed with our own strengths and weaknesses. U2 is an influence among many others. They are probably the most popular of our influences making them the easiest to compare us too. Our other, less obvious influences to name a few would be The Afghan Whigs, Led Zeppelin, The Cure, early Genesis. We never set out to write a song that sounds like anything we’ve heard before but the subconscious is a powerful thing.

MD: Beatles or Elvis (You cannot pussy out and choose both)?

Beatles.

MD: What band or artist would you never want to be compared to?

Vampire Weekend.

MD: What inspired you to become a musician?

Support of family and friends and the music and emotion of our idols.

MD:  Favorite place in the world to listen to music (live or otherwise)?

In a calm environment through a pair of great headphones.

MD:  Better band: Dogstar (Keanu Reeves band), 30 Odd Foot of Grunts (Russell Crowe’s band) or Bruce Willis and the Accelerators?

Never heard any of their music but… probably Dogstar because Keanu Reeves seems most likely to be in a band to me.

MD:  Sex…better before bed or when you wake up?

Before bed.

MD:  What do you want to accomplish as a band? How big do you want to get?

Big enough to work and collaborate with our idols someday… and to pay our bills.
