The fresh style of the LA based indie rock outfit GROUPLOVE made an appearance at the Rickshaw Stop as a part of the weekly Popscene event. The Rickshaw was alive from the very start of the night as everyone in the building was mingling and preparing for the music. The opening band passed around a full plate of neon paint that was worn by the faces of those who were ready to get down on the dance floor.

WalktheMoon

Opening the night up was Walk the Moon, the energy of the band along with the bouncing synth lines made the crowd move all around the dance floor. This entire set was extremely high energy with few signs of rest. Following their performance, the band was catching a red eye flight to Bonnaroo. It was no surprise that each of the members were showing their excitement for what they were doing so vividly. They closed out their set with their song “Anna Sun”, the crowd sang along during the chorus as a final farewell to the band.

As GROUPLOVE was about to take the stage the crowd pressed forward to get a good view of the band. They kicked off their set with “Don’t Say Oh Well” off of their self-titled EP. This anthem was a nice entrance into their high-powered set. The tempo was kicked up with “Itchin on a Photograph”, which had the entire band dancing all over the stage. The lead vocals of Christian Zucconi were incredibly powerful and carried a lot of emotion throughout the performance. This was especially evident on “Close Your Eyes and Count to Ten”, which transitioned between soft harmonies and yelling.

The night was coming to an end, but not before GROUPLOVE threw a bunch of enormous colorful balloons into the crowd to precede the two final songs. The first of which was the fun poppy song “Tongue Tied”. Following this song, each of the members left the stage to the sounds of clapping and hollering from fans. They answered the crowd’s request for one more song and delivered “Colours” to close out the night.
