New York – Total Slacker’s Record Release show at Baby’s All Right Wednesday was a total sold out success. The band took the stage with big grins, and played like it was a party. Their second full length Slip Away just came out the day before, but everyone knew the songs anyway. Total Slacker ripped through their set, with Tucker noting early on how good the energy was in the room. The house lights strobed in colors, and the crowd was a mass of movement with person after person scaling the stage and jumping back in. The band played through the new hits and the old – when they busted out “Secret VHS Collection” towards the end that made the whole night for me, and it was already one of the most fun shows of the year so far.
That’s got to be one of the best things to ever feel when you play a show and have a huge crowd of your friends going crazy dancing and shouting to your songs. Yeah, Total Slacker completely killed it like that. Especially guitarist Tassy, who was wildin’ out more than anyone, thrashing his guitar around like a total slasher.
Syracuse noise punk band Perfect Pussy had just sonically slaughtered the room right before, with singer Meredith Graves performing stiff epileptic seizure moves while screaming unintelligible hardcore vocals into her mic. Their set was prime freakout time for the moshers, in contrast to Life Size Maps before them who played more jangly melodic pop.
Honduras (above) opened the night right, playing to what was already a favorable crowd. That says something when you’re the opening band and there are already a good amount of people who came out for the start to jump around and scream for you. Honduras recently signed with Black Bell Records, already the home of Total Slacker, who will release their second EP Morality Cuts on February 25th. Their new single “Ace” is already out, and first single “Borders,” was immediate jam that had the crowd jumping. These guys are already punk pros who played to the crowd and probably got more than a few people excited for their own EP release at Radio Bushwick March 1.
Total Slacker have way more shows coming, as they will soon be off to tour the end of the month, with dates all over the US. Perfect Pussy has their own gigs throughout March, and Life Size Maps will have a residency at Pianos.
