There was a good deal of diversity in the music we covered this past week, from both brand new artists and artists we were checking back with. Over on the west coast in Los Angeles, Katrina experienced the “bone-chilling, gothic-tinged electronic music” of Soft Metals. In NYC, I rocked out to Skaters (shown above), Drowners, and The Denzels at Bowery Ballroom, and then later in the week I got to watch Emily Wells build her classical and hip hop influenced songs at Lincoln Center. As for new albums, Brigit reviewed the new Aidan Knight LP, Small Reveal, which revealed itself to be packed full of emotional punches.
West Palm Beach dreampop five-piece the band in heaven have finished their debut full length, Caught in a Summer Swell, and the first summer swell off that is “Dandelion Wine.”
Melbourne, Australia’s I, a Man have been gaining attention around the country for their dream rock tunes, and have released another: “Less Travelled,” off their forthcoming debut LP.
In the 90s, they would have been labeled “alternative.” Now, it’s called “slacker pop.” Either way, it’s pretty good. Scott & Charlene’s Wedding have shared the third single off their new album Any Port In A Storm. The song is called “Wild Heart,” and the album’s due out August 13.
Weaves is a brand new band from Toronto, and their new track “Motorcycle” needs to be shared.
Junior Astronomers sound like punk injected with some math rock, and maybe a touch of glam. Check out lead track “Lisalla,” off their new album.
Lucius has a new track, AND announced the date for their debut album, to excite everyone’s anticipation. Oh, and tour dates.
Seattle surf rock girl group La Luz dropped a video for “Brainwash,” pairing their jangly surf tune with vintage propaganda.
NYC experimental punk band Big French released new jam “Would Not Try,” an awesome weirdo ballad.
