As a self-respecting man, I can’t stand watching the View. But sometimes I’m bound and gagged and forced to watch it, and occasionally there’s someone interesting. A few months ago I heard Condoleezza Rice touch on her expectations as a growing musician: “I thought I was going to play Carnegie Hall. I mean, I was a music major. And then I realized — that day you meet those 12-year olds who can play from sight everything it took you all year to learn — and you think, maybe I’ll end up playing at Nordstrom or in a piano bar. But not at Carnegie Hall.”
There’s that 10,000 hours rule. Luckily, the New Yorker reports that Kevin Smith didn’t have to go through that experience to get to Carnegie Hall.
