New York – It’s about that time for our Matchless Showcase! On Wednesday, February 19, we are proud to present another batch of great bands to tune your ears to. For everyone in NYC, don’t let the winter freeze your insides and come out and rock to this desirable lineup:

Set times:
10:45pm Old Monk
10pm Dead Waves
9:15pm The Meaning of Life
8:30pm Cat Casual and the Other Lovers
Doors at 8pm, $7 cover
We covered Old Monk several times through the years already, as they’ve held our attention with their “heavy riffs interspersed with spazzed out frenzy, then cooled off with fleeting calmness.” As somewhat of a BNB.com alumni at this point, we’re pretty excited we have another reason to see their live kamikaze ride again.
Queens-based band Dead Waves channels much of the energy that was coming out of that borough back in the 70s-80s punk heyday, with driving guitars and vocals that are sometimes sedate with a slight echo, and sometimes screaming. This is some fine garage punk post-hardcore, so get ready to head bang hard to this.
The Meaning of Life first caught our attention last summer during Northside Festival, and has continued to keep us tuned in with their 60s & 80s pop structures with a 90s feel.
Cat Casual and the Other Lovers is the solo project of William Benton, who has been Shilpa Ray’s right hand man as of late, played with punk rock guitar hero Ivan Julian in his band, and is working on a new project with Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth, Crucifucks), Steve Wynn (Dream Syndicate, The Baseball Project), Linda Pitmon (The Baseball Project), and Jason Victor (Steve Wynn and the Miracle 3, Skull Practitioners). Benton’s tunes for Cat Casual are full of southern charm with Lynchian mystique.
Matchless is located in Greenpoint at 557 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222
