New York - Courtney Barnett’s debut album, which was released in March on Mom+Pop Music, has taken the music world by storm. Critics are hailing the Melbourne-based artist as one of the most important songwriters of her generation. Those who have never seen these songs performed now have their chance with Barnett and her band, The Courtney Barnetts, returning to North America this month for a run of sold-out dates and several festival appearances through the summer. Barnett also just announced that she will be headlining Terminal 5 in New York City this July with special guests Speed Ortiz and Torres. All dates are listed below.
Today, a new animation video for “Dead Fox” was released into the world. The song is about corporate greed, big business and the impact these corporations have on our lives –particularly the way they influence what we eat and how we get our groceries into our fridges. The clip was directed and animated by Rory Kerr and Paul Ruttledge, who were inspired by the messages in the song. They say, “We liked how politically loaded and conversational the lyrics are. We wanted the animation to have a stylistic and organic look, hence most of the drawings were done on paper rather than digitally. To further compliment the lyrics, we thought it would be funny to have the animals in the video look as cynical as possible, as if they’d had enough with how humans are treating them.”
