If David Berkeley‘s soul could sing, what would it say? It would more than likely be as animated, vibrant and emotionally invested as he sounds when he performs on stage. And since I have the pleasure of describing what it is like to watch him last night at the Rockwood Music Hall in New York City, those are the best words; animated, vibrant, and emotionally invested.
Oh yeah, and he sings like a dream.
At the album release show for his fourth album, Some Kind of Cure, David did what he does best: weave passionate tales of longing with light, airy sounds. The crowd, fans of his and opener, singer/songwriter Peter Bradley Adams, mouthed the words of both new and old tunes, some swaying rhythmically, some nodding. Other traded stories of the many David Berkeley shows they attended. No one ever missed those shows, they enjoyed them, and left them in the past, positive memories, like David speaks of his past records.
I sat down with David in a noisy New York City bar in the Rockwood Music Hall about forty-five minutes before Peter Bradley Adams took the stage to warm up the audience, and talked with David about this journey to fourth album, including your fans in the record-making process, and why his family will always come first.
As David said, you can find out more information about him and his East Coast tour HERE!
