Last night the Spanish quartet arrived at Soho with a beat in their heads and more than a little pep in their step. Their upbeat indie-dance tunes head everyone on the dance floor cutting loose, including themselves (see keyboardist Unai Lazcano rocking out in the video below). Everyone had a lot to be excited about.
Disco Ain’t Dead: The Aikiu Interview
The Aikiu is the musical concoction that occurs when you add two parts disco and one part electronic pop into a boiling pot with a classical broth. That’s because Alex Aikiu was trained in classical piano, learning the ropes by practicing the work of Chopin and Mozart before ever hearing the more dance worthy tracks
Interview with Montreal’s Winter Gloves
Unbeknownst to me before this interview, Montreal is apparently a pretty awesome place. The rent is cheap, the coffee is good, the girls are beautiful, and the music is great. Although that’s all fun and good, Winter Gloves are preparing to leave their Canadian paradise for a massive North American tour that will take them
Delorean Dates Approach in SB and LA
First things first: this band has absolutely nothing to do with awesome stainless steel sports cars from the early ‘80s, nor do they mean to reference Doc Brown’s time trekking contraption from Back to the Future. Although, it would be easy to assume that some time travel was involved in the recording process of the
Wavves @ Soho on 8/16
As word on the street would have you believe, Nathan Williams and his band Wavves are completely ridiculous. Last night when Williams and his band mates took to the stage at Soho in Santa Barbara, hilarity immediately ensued. It took me a minute to realize what it is about Williams, his mystique (or actual complete
Aterciopelados @ Soho, Santa Barbara, 8/14
Aterciopelados are a few things: a band that hails from Columbia, musicians who fuse North American and South American musical styles seamlessly, a band that has been doing it for almost 20 years, and a group I know almost nothing about. I saw the flyer for their show and noticed that it was being put
Todd Prodanovich talks at length with Oakland’s James & Evander
James & Evander are an electronic music production duo that create some incredibly lush synthesized landscapes for your listening pleasure. The group consists of Oakland’s very own Adam Myatt and Glenn Jackson, who met in college and decided to flex their synthesizing muscles and make some recordings while gaining momentum for a string of live
Hard Summer Gets it Right in 2010
Hard Summer delivered exactly what its name promised this time around, and Saturday’s show was exploding with some of the hardest bass blasts and pulsating dance rhythms that LA has seen in awhile. The electronic music festival started around noon, but the real excitement didn’t set in for the thousands of attendees until the sun
Hard Summer Festival Picks
Hard has suffered from a few snafus in the past year, including an early cancelation of Hard LA and a mid-show cancellation of last year’s Hard Summer. Hard NYC also had its share of problems, the biggest of which being that MIA walked off stage early, blaming poor sound on the rain and sound technicians.
Best Coast Sinks into the Summer Haze with Debut Album
Not to sound conceited or anything, but Best Coast picked the right side of the country to name their band after. There’s nothing like a hot California summer, and Best Coast’s debut LP Crazy for You harnesses the mood of the sizzling sand and cool blue waves that we love so dearly during these months.
