BNBTV Spotlight: Kina Grannis, "Valentine"

Kina Grannis is a great example of the internet-age way to rise into the music business; this self-promoting YouTube sensation–who is as devoted to her fans as they are to her (think lots of goofy, personal videos)–has garnered attention with her heartfelt lyrics, sweet tunes, and most importantly, her freindly, bubbly, approachable and lovable personality. She’s like the Beibs, but not so annoying (though, admittedly, I think the little chump is pretty talented). If there’s any pattern here, she’ll do some collabs with Jason Mraz (see: Beiber’s Usher), and maybe start rocking an updated bowl cut and a daring and impressive assortment of colored hoodies.

But, in all seriousness, Ms. Grannis is chugging along just fine by doing her own thing, which includes re-releaseing her 2010 album, Stairwells, last week. The re-release includes 4 new tracks, in addition to a remixed and remastered version of the original 2010 release. This album, naturally, showcases the sweet and emotive mind of Kina Grannis, and the new tracks are a tasty new addition to an already delightfully simple and mellow album. Basically, this is a good album to just completely girl out to (and even guys need to girl out every now and then, admit it) and feel totally, shamelessly cheesy while doing so. And this song in the video, “Valentine”, will have you laughing and crying in a single sound. (Springsteen/The Format cover reference…anyone? Eh?)
