Brendan Benson and Readymade Records present the new music video for the song “Pretty Baby” off of the beloved songwriter and co-founder of the Raconteur’s fifth solo effort What Kind of World. The Los Angeles Times calls the album “as solid as its predecessors, with sparkling power-pop gems (“Light of Day”), fuzz-garage rave-ups (“Happy Most of the Time”) and a dreamy piano ballad (“Bad for Me”) that evokes early-’70s stuff by Todd Rundgren and Harry Nilsson.” On the East Coast the New York Times labels Benson “a singer-songwriter of five excellent alternative country/rock albums,” and notes that What Kind of World “furthers his gravelly, heartland anthemics…”
The bloody back-woods nightmare was directed by Young Hines, the first signing to Bensons’s Readymade Label, and the man behind the excellent Benson produced albumGive Me My Change. The song itself is the result of a songwriting collaboration between Brendan and his friend and country music star Ashley Monroe.
Since the release of What Kind of World Benson has kept busy with tour dates in the United States and Europe as well as sessions producing records at the all analogue Nashville based studio Welcome to 1979 for artists like The Howling Brothers, and the new album from Cory Chisel, Old Believers, coming out this coming Tuesday June 26th on Benson’s Readymade Records. Benson continues his touring this summer with select Midwest dates at the end of June and additional European tour dates in August.
