New York – Fans of 22-year-old performer Charli XCX will have to wait a bit longer for her new album, Sucker. Word arrived today from her label, Neon Gold/Atlantic Records, that the full-length, originally scheduled to be released next month, has been delayed until December 16 stateside and January 26 in the U.K. and Europe.
While no explanation was given in the official announcement, the artist explained on her Facebook page, that her single “’Boom Clap’ is still getting so much love all over the world, which is crazy, and it just makes sense, so I have proper time to focus on the album launch.”
Over the last 18 months, the singer-songwriter has had a dramatic rise to international pop stardom. Her 2013 dark-pop record True Romance earned her critical acclaim leading to world tours with the likes of Coldplay and Ellie Goulding. She wrote and was featured on one of 2013’s biggest hits, “I Love It,” with Swedish duo Icona Pop, and co-wrote and was again featured on the international, four million-selling hit “Fancy” with Iggy Azalea.
At SXSW earlier this year, Charli XCX talked with Best New Bands about her rapid success.
This summer, the synth-pop artist scored a UK and US Top 10 hit with “Boom Clap” and also released the new single, ‘Break The Rules,’ off her forthcoming sophomore album, Sucker.
Despite the album delay, Charli XCX’s North American tour continues as scheduled:
