Chef’Special To Support Twenty One Pilots

Chef'Special live by Sarah Hess

New York – Netherlands-based Chef’Special will make a return to North America this summer to support Twenty One Pilots on the nearly sold-out EMØTIØNAL RØADSHØW tour. Both of the Fueled By Ramen/Atlantic Records groups will make a coast-to-coast trek, along with MUTEMATH, hitting arenas and amphitheaters beginning May 31st at Cincinnati, OH’s U.S. Bank Arena. The summer-long tour concludes with two special sold-out performances at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

Chef’Special first made its U.S. debut last fall with a new self-titled EP, which features the international hit single, “In Your Arms,” that became a 3x platinum certified smash in Chef’Special’s native Netherlands. Best New Bands discovered Chef’Special last September at Riot Fest in Chicago. Two weeks later we caught the quintet again at Concord Music Hall in Chicago, when the band joined AER on the One Of A Kind Tour. Both performances proved why the five-piece, comprised of singer Joshua Nolet, guitarist Guido Joseph, bassist Jan Derks, keyboardist Wouter Heeren, and drummer Wouter Jerry Prudon, has quickly earned a worldwide following of supportive fans, with its unique sound that melds a variety of genres from hip-hop, rock, and pop, to funk and reggae. Since then, ”In Your Arms” has been blasting the charts and playing Alternative and AAA radio outlets nationwide, and the music video for “In Your Arms” has approached half a million views. Chef’Special was also named 2015’s “Best Band” at the Dutch Public Broadcasting’s NPO 3FM Awards.

Chef’Special made quite the impact with the 2011 debut album One For The Mrs. and its NVPI (Dutch Association of Producers and Importers of Image and Sound Carriers) gold certified hit single, “Birds.” 2014’s much-anticipated follow-up, Passing Through, topped the Dutch “Album Top 100” chart, on its way to NVPI gold certification. In addition to the Top 40 success of “In Your Arms,” which was written in memory of lead vocalist Joshua Nolet’s late father, the hit single “On Shoulders” became gold certified. The moving video for “On Shoulders” documents Chef’Special’s experiences, traveling and touring.

The EP Chef’Special is available on iTunes.  A list of dates for the North American EMØTIØNAL RØADSHØW 2016 tour with Chef’Special, MUTEMATH, and Twenty One Pilots can be found below. Follow Chef’Special on Facebook and Twitter.

Sarah Hess

At the age of six, Sarah Hess discovered True Blue by Madonna. This resulted in her spending hours in front of the bathroom mirror with a hairbrush microphone, belting out "La Isla Bonita" off key. Her love for music only intensified over the years thanks to her parents; her mother exposed Sarah to The Jackson Five and had her hustling to the Bee Gees, while her father would play her albums like 'Pet Sounds' and 'Some Girls' from start to finish, during which he'd lecture on and on about the history of rock & roll. Sarah would eventually stumble upon rap and hip-hop, then punk and alternative, and fall madly in love with Jeff Buckley and film photography.

After attending The School of the Art Institute in Chicago, Sarah went on to study education at Dominican University, earning a degree in history. When not teaching, writing, or taking in a show, she is most likely to be found with a camera to her eye or hanging out in a darkroom.
