New York – French artist, Héloïse Letissier, better known by her musical project, Christine and the Queens, will be making her American live debut at SXSW and follow with a batch of U.S. shows.
The indie pop singer-songwriter is getting ready to showcase her highly anticipated, debut U.S. EP, Saint Claude. The extended play features runaway French hits, “Saint Claude” and “Christine.” The latter of these has been re-imagined in English on a brand new track, “Tilted.” The EP is due for release on April 14 through Because Music, in partnership with Neon Gold Records; the same label that first brought Ellie Goulding, Marina & The Diamonds and – in recent years – Tove Lo and Charli XCX to U.S. listeners.
Christine’s debut album, titled Chaleur Humaine went triple platinum in France, selling more than 300,000 albums since the album dropped last summer. An English version of Chaleur Humaine is due out later in the year via Neon Gold / Because / Atlantic.
All of these upcoming releases and the tour were preceded only by praise from musical peers and industry professionals alike. Christine took home wins at last month’s Victoires de La Musique Awards, for Video of the Year and Best Female Artist. Christine was also chosen to collaborate with Nile Rodgers in a televised performance of “We Are Family,” commemorating the 30th anniversary of France’s acclaimed Canal+ network.
Fellow musicians and performers, including the likes of Lorde, Mark Ronson and Madonna speak highly of the young artist:
“I think her voice is amazing. I can see why she’s killing it. It’s exactly the sort of voice I like, it’s gravelly and has texture. The video is amazing too. That’s something you guys, The French, do really well, visuals and aesthetics. I was thinking, ‘Fuck, I’d like to steal that idea. I hope it doesn’t become a hit in England.’ Haha.” – Mark Ronson
“The song that I really like right now… It’s by Christine and the Queens and it’s called ‘Saint Claude’. It’s got this beautiful music video, it’s really simple, the melodies are transcendent. I love it.” – Lorde
“I love her music, she’s cool. I like how she doesn’t seem to care, I love her style. She’s an incredible dancer.” – Madonna
