New York - South African rock band Civil Twilight released a haunting yet beautiful cover of Billy Idol’s ”Dancing With Myself.” The four-piece also announced an acoustic re-release of the band’s phenomenal third album Story of an Immigrant, via Wind-up Records on July 15th. Civil Twilight has been touring in support of the album the past month, including festivals performances at Bonnaroo and Firefly. The band – which has been compared to U2 and The Police – will continue touring across the United States on a headlining tour this July, and Civil Twilight will also join Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness for a handful of shows throughout the Midwest.
Civil Twilight is originally from Cape Town, South Africa. The band consists of brothers Andrew (guitar) and Steven McKeller (bass guitar, lead vocals, keyboards), plus Richard Wouters (drums), and Kevin Dailey (keyboards, backing vocals). The now Nashville based band is living proof of what happens when you stop worrying about being the chosen one and make music built on both the roots that grew you and the love that keeps you thriving every day. Civil Twilight songs embrace every corner of human emotion, balancing delicate, poetic lyrics with sweeping arrangements that touch all the senses. The same goes for Civil Twilight’s gorgeous cover of Billy Idol’s “Dancing With Myself,” which is sure to give you goosebumps.
“I was sitting down with a friend of mine listening to that song one day,” recalls frontman Steven McKellar. “He read me the lyrics while the song was playing and I just thought they were so beautiful. They struck me in a way that they never had before. I thought, ‘This song would make such a beautiful ballad.’ So we decided to record it that way, really sparse and sensitive.”
“Dancing With Myself” will be available as a bonus track on the special acoustic re-release of the Civil Twilight album Story of an Immigrant, which will also feature two more bonus tracks, “Letters from the Sky” and “Save Yourself.”
