Los Angeles – Dear Rouge has released, and Best New Bands is proud to premiere, a new video from their debut LP, Black To Gold.
The album was produced by Howard Redekopp (Tegan and Sara, Mother Mother) and Gavin Brown (Metric, Billy Talent). The band is currently having tremendous success in Canada, including being named by CBCMusic as one of the 15 Most Anticipated Canadian Indie Albums of the Year and the duo have surpassed over a million streams on Spotify.
USA TODAY proclaims, “More and more pop artists are drawing from ’80s influences, but none make a better case for the trend than this Vancouver duo, whose erupting synths and charged vocals here will surely become a summer-soundtrack staple.”

Here is the new video for “Black To Gold”:
Our Dakota Smith caught up with the band to discuss their creative process:
DS: What has your songwriting process been like?
DR: Our song writing process has been a bit random. Sometimes it comes effortlessly and sometimes we labor over the song. Also, since we are a duo, we get inspired in different ways. Sometimes we end up writing together in a room, while other times we email ideas back and forth.
DS: You’ve had tremendous success in Canada so far. How have you felt basically blowing up the Canadian indie scene since you started releasing music?
DR: Honestly we are extremely grateful for the support we have received from Canada. We have been amazed at how with each single we release how the band is growing. It gets us really excited for the future as well as motivates us to work harder as a band.
DS: You’ve also toured with some impressive acts. Who has been your favorite band to tour with?
DR: That’s a tough question as we’ve toured with many bands but we would have to go with Phantogram. We watched their entire set every night and learned a lot from them. They are also really fun people to be on the road with.
DS: “Black To Gold” is a live video, could you tell us a bit more about the concept?
DR: This song is one of our favourites from the record and one of the most fun to play live. We shot the video live with our friend Gavin Brown. It was a beautiful set up and the visuals really took our breath away.
DS: What are your plans for your music going forward?
DR: We are really trying to work hard at refining our craft. Our main goal is that we continue to bring a unique and exciting show each night we play as well as going deeper into our song writing.
