Chapel Hill – Katie Crutchfield, the DIY-minded, lo-fi, indie pop singer now known for her project, Waxahatchee, (named for the river nearby her childhood house in Birmingham, AL) has been on the mind of many a fan since talk of her next record first came onto the scene. In the time leading up to the album’s launch, Crutchfield has been generating plenty of happy anticipation for new music and her latest move to keep that momentum going, comes in the form of a music video for the song, “Under a Rock.” The video’s premiere comes just before the release of the singer’s third, full-length album, Ivy Tripp, which is slated for release on April 7.
The video features Waxahatchee performing not as Crutchfield in solo stride but as their full-band incarnation. (Katie Crutchfield (guitar, vocals), Keith Spencer (guitar), Katherine Simonetti (bass), Ashley Arnwine (drums), and Allison Crutchfield (guitar, keys, and backup vocals).) The group are performing for friends at Golden Tea House, a now-inoperative performance space in West Philadelphia, which was once a central and vital hub within the town’s local music community.
