England’s Glass Animals Release Self-Titled Debut EP

Oxford, England-based Glass Animals have just released a self-titled EP–their first–on Harvest Records in the U.S.  Vocalist-producer Dave Bayley’s hypnotic sound is immediately apparent on lead track, “Psylla.”  (That’s a word we don’t recognize but a quick online search identified it as “a genus of sap-sucking insects.”  Much about Glass Animals is still a mystery and we’ll thus use our imagination.  We did notice that the first three letters of the song title are also found in the word “psychedelic,” so there’s that.)

“Black Mambo” and “Exxus” continue the hypnotic style; “Woozy” features an elegant rap by Jean Deaux.

The video for “Psylla” features some terrific animation and visual imagery from Los Angeles-based director Rafael Bonilla Jr.  The label notes that Bayley has an obsession with biology and psychedelia, both of which are apparent from the collaborative effort in the “Psylla” video.

Glass Animals are currently doing a quick tour of various UK cities and will be visiting the states in 2014 including a stop in Austin for SXSW to support their full-length debut, date still TBD.  Certainly, a band to keep an eye out for.

We will publish a full review of the EP very soon.
