Kongos Announce 2015 North American ‘Lunatic’ Tour

KONGOS

New York – Alt rockers Kongos will embark on a North American headline tour this coming January.

Following up highly successful stints on the road in the U.S. with Kings of Leon, Young The Giant and Alice In Chains and in Europe with OneRepublic, this is the platinum-selling quartet’s very first country-wide headline run of the United States.  The Lunatic Tour begins on January 29 in Dallas and goes through March 13 in Los Angeles. Support comes from indie rock outfits Sir Sly and Colony House on most dates.  Venue presales go live November 4. Tour dates are below; VIP packages can be found on the band’s website.

2015 also sees Kongos infiltrate radio with their next single, “I Want To Know.” Coming on the heels of their current alternative hit “I’m Only Joking,” it’s yet another standout from the South African-born and Arizona-based band’s well-received full-length debut, Lunatic (Epic Records).

Best New Bands’ senior writer Sarah Hess interviewed the band this summer.

Dylan Kongos talked a bit about moving to a new country: “it was a little bit of a culture shock, but we adjusted pretty quickly because we were at that age when you can adjust well. Johnny went straight into high school, having grown up in South Africa. We went into middle school and grammar school, and it was different.”  For more of the interview, click HERE.

Kongos’ breakthrough hit, “Come With Me Now,” solidified them as one of rock ‘n’ roll’s most exciting new acts.  The single soared to #1 at Alternative Radio and stayed there for five weeks, marking the quickest ascent to the top by a new band in history.

Kongos’ success led to numerous national TV appearances including performances on Late Night With Seth MeyersJimmy Kimmel LIVE!, and The Today Show.  Best New Bands reviewed their set at Lollapalooza.

KONGOS are the sons of popular ’70s South African/British singer-songwriter John Kongos. The brothers are multi-instrumentalists, with Dylan and Jesse handling vocals live and playing bass and drums respectively onstage.  Eldest brother Johnny plays accordion and piano, while Danny is on slide and regular guitar.
