Mayer Hawthorne to Perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Mayer Hawthorne by Jake Michaels - Best New Bands

Los Angeles - Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Mayer Hawthorne will perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday April 13th, in support of his fourth full-length record, Man About Town, which is available everywhere today via Vagrant Records/BMG. Mayer Hawthorne will be performing the album’s single, “Love Like That.” Fans can grab tickets to attend here.

Mayer Hawthorne was a Best New Bands Featured Artist, way back in 2012, when he rising fast within the music industry, following the release of How Do You Do. Hawthorne was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan as Andrew Cohen. He grew up with a love of music, much in part to his mother and father. In a past interview, Hawthorne told Best New Bands, “My parents are both very musical. They always bought me records and taught me about music, but they never pressured me. My dad knew how hard it is to ‘make it’ in the music business because he tried it. He always made sure I had a ‘backup plan.’” Though, Cohen did not need that backup plan because his talent, personality, and remarkable stage presence proved enough to find success in the music industry, performing neo-soul music with pop sensibilities, under the stage name Mayer Hawthorne, which he came up with “by using the tried and true method that’s worked for porn stars: his middle name plus his street name, hence Mayer (middle) Hawthorne (street).”

After releasing his third studio album, Where Does This Door Go, in 2013, Hawthorne took some time to work on other projects - Jaded Incorporated, his beat wave duo with 14KT, and Tuxedo, his funk duo with Jake One – but he’s back and better than ever.

On Man About Town, the soul singer returns to handling the majority of production. Hawthorne also wrote every single track and played damn near every instrument on the album! When it comes to songwriting, the Los Angeles transplant “pulls from his life and observations; his heartache and joy. Sometimes it’s groovy, other times he’s vulnerable and sincere.” It’s that “timeless, soulful, baby-making music” that people listen to after kicking back a few drinks and getting awfully sentimental.

In support of Man About Town, Mayer Hawthorne will also be kicking off a North American headlining tour on May 4th, in Santa Ana at the Observatory. The tour will wrap up in Las Vegas on July 8th. Fans who purchase tickets to see Mayer live will receive a digital copy of Man About Town.  A full list of dates can be found below.
