Los Angeles – Elektra Records has just announced the addition of New Orleans-based, indie pop group, Royal Teeth, to its acclaimed roster. (The group was interviewed by Best New Bands back in 2012.) The quintet’s label debut is expected in 2016 and will be the band’s first new music since releasing 2013’s Glow, which featured the hit song, “Wild.”
Royal Teeth’s co-lead vocalist Gary Larsen expresses the band’s happiness over the development:
“We are very excited to join the Elektra team. [Elektra President,] Jeff Castelaz has been a part of the Royal Teeth family for a long time and we are thrilled to reconnect with him as we continue our musical journey.”
In return, Castelaz had this to say about signing Royal Teeth:
“I first saw Royal Teeth perform several years ago at a small, sweaty club in the French Quarter. Since that night, they have done the hard yards, developing one bit at a time, playing every club and nearly every festival in the U.S. So today, it’s a real honor to welcome Royal Teeth to Elektra Records.”
The five musicians, who are known for their upbeat live shows, have been invited to perform at the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival – a performance that they will be giving for the third time in their still young career. The band’s highly desired performance slot on Friday, April 24, 2015, has them sharing a bill with Wilco and Hozier. After Jazzfest, Royal Teeth will travel to Texas for a run of show dates. Full show itinerary information is below.
Royal Teeth’s original members coming from all around Louisiana, the group first came together in New Orleans during 2010. A year later, the band would self-release their debut recording, the five-song EP Act Naturally, and subsequently take on their first national tours. In 2013, Royal Teeth released their full length debut, Glow, through Dangerbird, a California-based independent record label co-founded by Castelaz prior to his joining Elektra Records.
The album’s catchy single, “Wild,” proved to be a raging success, earning airplay on national radio and being given features in multiple television shows, commercials, video games, and movies. Furthermore, Royal Teeth performed the song on Fox’s American Idol and NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly. The accompanying music video for “Wild,” which was directed by A/J Jackson, who is also the frontman for the band’s new label-mate Saint Motel, a project done before either band had signed with Elektra. In it’s relatively short time as a band, Royal Teeth has already toured alongside Fitz and The Tantrums, The Mowglis, and Walk The Moon, as well as been asked to perform at high profile festivals like Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo and Voodoo Music Experience. Royal Teeth’s sparkling sound – emphasized by the grand vocals of Gary Larsen and Nora Patterson – has been recognized by many fans and industry cohorts alike.
