Stepdad was formed in a sweltering Chicago apartment in the summer of 2009 when two songwriters turned roommates, Ultramark and Ryan McCarthy, began writing songs together. The duo then relocated to Grand Rapids, MI to write and record their first EP, Ordinaire. A remastered version, featuring new music not on the original EP, was released September 6th, 2011.

After the release of their EP, some notable highlights include: 230,000+ views of their video for “My Leather, My Fur, My Nails”, tours with Rubblebucket, Fitz and the Tantrums and dates with Passion Pit.

Prior to the release of this EP, the band began a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to record their forthcoming full length,Wildlife Pop.  Through Kickstarter, they managed to raise enough money to travel to New York to record with producer Chris Zane (Passion Pit, The Walkmen, Suckers, Les Savy Fav).

Now that production is wrapped, the band is excited to announce that they have signed to Black Bell Records (Passion Pit’s Ayad Al Adhamy’s New Label) to release their debut full length. Wildlife Pop is slated to be released this summer.
