New York – Fueled By Ramen recording group Twenty One Pilots are marking the end of their most successful summer so far with a wide array of upcoming activity, including high profile TV performances and the start of a fully sold out North American tour.
The fun began last night as Twenty One Pilots tore the house down with an extraordinary live performance at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. The band teamed up with the one and only A$AP Rocky that saw for an unprecedented medley comprising the top 20 digital rock smash, “Lane Boy” and “Heavydirtysoul,” both of course found on their chart-topping new album, BLURRYFACE -
As if that weren’t enough, Twenty One Pilots will perform their new single, “Stressed Out” along with “Lane Boy” on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, slated for Monday, September 14th (check local listings).
Twenty One Pilots is now getting set to kick off a hugely anticipated North American headline tour, all dates of which are now completely sold out. The “Blurryface Tour” – which features support from Echosmith and Elektra recording group Finish Ticket – gets underway September 8th and 9th with two shows at Washington, DC’s Echostage and then travels through a Halloween finale at St. Louis, MO’s Chaifetz Arena on October 31st. In addition, the band is also set to light up a number of US festivals including Las Vegas, NV’s Life Is Beautiful (September 25th) and Austin, TX’s ACL Music Festival (October 2nd and 9th).
Twenty One Pilots will then cross the Atlantic for a series of European “Blurryface Tour” dates, highlighted by sold out stops in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. A number of additional North American and European dates are also slated through early 2016 – for complete details, please visit www.twentyonepilots.com/tour.
Meanwhile, following the massive success of their #2 Alternative radio smash “Tear In My Heart,” Twenty One Pilots’ new single “Stressed Out” is beginning to impact at Alternative radio outlets nationwide. The track has earned more than 17 million streams thus far while its companion video – directed by the band’s longtime collaborators at Reel Bear Media (“Fairly Local,” “Lane Boy,” “Car Radio,” “Guns For Hands”) – has scored over 15 million views and counting at Twenty One Pilots’ official YouTube channel.
Long hailed as one of the most energizing live acts in any contemporary genre, Twenty One Pilots has spent much of their summer knocking out happy throngs at such international festivals as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival, Belgium’s Pukkelpop, and Montreal’s Osheaga Festival Musique et Arts. Rolling Stone declared the band to be among the “40 Best Things We Saw At Lollapalooza,” writing, “(Twenty One Pilots) has succeeded as much as any band in recent history when it comes to over-inclusion. By trying on nearly everything in the pop-music spectrum (as well as nearly every form of headgear), (Tyler) Joseph and Josh Dun yielded huge, if unlikely, success.” “It’s hard to take your eyes off Twenty One Pilots,” noted the Chicago Sun Times, “because if you blink you just might miss something incredible, like drummer Josh Dun doing back flips off the piano or singer Tyler Joseph walking across the hands of the massive crowd in front of him. If the alt hip-hop duo wasn’t already deemed one of the hardest working bands in today’s scene, they certainly keep the title for their live show, which is acrobatic cabaret as much as it is a high-energy rock concert.” The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel praised Twenty One Pilots as “a rare and refreshing case where a band has created a thoroughly original sound and stage show…So many people were jumping during ‘Radio,’ the earth literally moved; you could feel the ground bounce from the top of a hill overlooking the field. With a set like that, and a crowd like this, how long do you think it will take until Twenty One Pilots is headlining Lollapalooza?”
BLURRYFACE – which follows Twenty One Pilots’ 2013 Fueled By Ramen debut, VESSEL – made a stunning chart debut upon its arrival earlier this year, entering the SoundScan/Billboard 200 at #1 with total sales exceeding 147,000 – Twenty One Pilots’ biggest week to date. What’s more, the album affirms Twenty One Pilots’ international breakthrough, reaching the top 5 in Canada as well as the top 20 in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
The instantaneous success of BLURRYFACE followed a string of pre-release hit singles, including “Fairly Local,” which reached #1 on the iTunes Store’s “Top Alternative Songs” chart as well as the top 5 on Billboard’s “US Rock Digital Songs” tally. “Tear In My Heart” followed and proved even more popular, rising to #2 onBillboard’s “Alternative Songs” and #7 on the “Hot Rock Songs” chart. The track’s companion video – directed by multiple MTV Video Music Award-nominee Marc Klasfeld (Katy Perry, Jay-Z, Wiz Khalifa Feat. Charlie Puth) – has drawn more than 12.5 million views and counting at Twenty One Pilots’ official YouTube channel, with total channel views now approaching 33 million.
In addition to its overwhelming popular appeal, BLURRYFACE has also earned rapturous critical praise. BLURRYFACE “serves as evidence that one of pop’s most daring duos isn’t about to slow down,” wrote Billboard. Alternative Press ranked BLURRYFACE among its “Best Albums of 2015 So Far,” with Editor-In-Chief Jason Pettigrew hailing Twenty One Pilots in a four-and-a-half starred rave review as “multi-directional pop princes.” BLURRYFACE sees the band “(ramping) up everything,” writes Pettigrew, “from new influences to the number of producers (four) to the metric ton of uncertainties and fears multiplying in frontman/songwriter Tyler Joseph’s cranium. And it’s wonderful.”
