After releasing EPs on both Sexbeat (White Fence, Fear of Men, Fresh & Onlys) and Tough Love Records(Male Bonding, Weird Dreams), Shaun Hencher’s Virals return from where they left off, kicking out the jams and kicking off your 2013 with Strange Fruit, out January 14th (UK)/January 15th (US) on Zoo Music.
Recorded by Hencher in the summer of 2012 with Virals’ live guitarist, the pair returned to their familiar studio set up, playing every instrument and overseeing all recording themselves. What resulted is a channelling of old fashioned Tom Petty/Badfinger-esque musclerock coupled with the power of 90s indie rock. The wide-eyed optimism of opener “Strange Fruit” is filled to the brim with soaring melodies, loud guitars and sugar sweet vocals.
After a slew of BBC radio plays of “Summer Girls” by Lauren Laverne, Huw Stephens, Jen Long and Phil & Alice, Virals releases the second single and title track from the Strange Fruit EP. The band will make live appearances at Field Day Festival, SXSW and NRML Festival in Mexico later in the year, amongst others.
