Los Angeles - Young Fathers, the tightly knit trio based out of Scotland, have put a new single up on the web, in anticipation of their new album, White Men Are Black Men Too. Following the release of first single, “Rain or Shine,” the record’s newest single is titled, “Shame.” The freshly launched track is streaming now on SoundCloud. Hear it below!
The three gentlemen of Young Fathers are ‘G’ Hastings Kayus Bankole and Alloysious Massaquoi –all of them given names after their own fathers. White Men Are Black Men Too will be the group’s fourth release overall but only their second full length album, following up from their highly acclaimed, 2014 debut, DEAD.
This alternative hip-hop group from across the pond is no stranger to bending the rules of music creation in notably unique ways. The new album’s 12-track body of material was composed and recorded all during 2014 while the band was out on the road touring internationally. The project was then wrapped up back home at the group’s studio in Edinburgh. “Shame’s” initial projection into the ears of the public was no small premiere, as it was featured during the most recent episode of NPR Music’s popular “All Song’s Considered” program.
The band recently performed thefirst single from White Men Are Black People Too, “Rain or Shine,” during the UK’s BBC6 Music Festival. The performance of this intricately built and fascinatingly dynamic track can be watched below.
Though Young Fathers can be found under the umbrella of hip-hop, the group’s collective inspiration extends so far beyond that singular association. The band touches notes of hip-hop, punk, rock, pop, and more –making them like all and none of that at once. Their home nation clearly saw something special in this undefinable character of Young Fathers, as they are recipients of the UK’s most esteemed honor for an album, the coveted Mercury Prize.
White Men Are Black People Too is out April 7 via Big Dada.
Pre-order is available now through iTunes, Google Play and Big Dada.
